Nice to have items for a Tummy Tuck recovery

From Make Me Heal

Here's a list of some 'nice to have' items when you get home from a Tummy Tuck.

  • A recliner is a very nice to have item. Women who already have them wind up spending their first few days there non-stop and consider them a life saver. If you don't have one, and/or it's too inconvenient or costly for you to get one, then you can probably make do just fine in your bed or on a couch with plenty of pillows. A wedge pillow can also be very useful.
  • Having a small table next to your recovery area is essential. You won't want to be doing alot of twisting and moving to reach things.
  • If you're sleeping away from your recovery helper, then you'll need to have some way to reach them, like having your cell phone with you, and calling them on the home phone in the middle of the night to assist you with getting up, etc.
  • Your appetite probably won't come back for a few days after surgery, but you'll need to eat something to keep up your energy level and to take with your meds to prevent nausea. So have crackers, jello, popsicles, and other light foods on hand.
  • Water is also very important. Drinking plenty of fluids will help flush the anethesia from your system and will help keep you from getting a bladder infection. The extra trips to the bathroom will also help prevent blood clots from accumalating.
  • If you're having muscle repair, then you're going to be hunched over for many days following surgery. This is going to cause some major back pains. A heating pad will offer some relief. Also using a walker if you have one available will help. If you don't have a walker, then using a cane or an umbrella can also help.
  • Chapstick, baby wipes, and hand lotions are also nice to have around to keep you feeling comfortable.
  • Some people pin their drains directly to their garment, to keep them up and out of the way. A trick I used for easy on and off of the drains, is to get the clips that are used to clip your work badge to your shirt, and pin those to your garment. Then you can easily clip and unclip your drains to check output. Struggling with safety pins when you're so weak isn't much fun.
