What Are Homeopathic Remedies And How Can They Benefit My Healing?

The range of medical conditions and ailments that homeopathic remedies treat is vast and well documented and originated over 250 yers ago with a Dr. Hahnemann. The Royal Family of England supports the Royal School of Homeopathy besides using Homeopathy as their medical treatment of choice.

When it comes to a cosmetic surgery or treatment, a considerable number of patients have raved about homeopathic remedies for helping them reduce, minimize, and in some cases even avoid the swelling, bruising, nausea, constipation, sleeplessness, and other symptoms and issues that can occur during recovery. In addition to these healing benefits, patients have also used homeopathic remedies to help promote tissue repair, improve scar healing, and help minimize scar appearance. Such patients have reported that homeopathic remedies worked well and that they reduced the strength and appearance of their symptoms and issues. They felt that their symptoms and issues would have been greater had they not taken such homeopathic remedies. Some patients even claim that these remedies were the reasons that they had no symptoms and issues whatsoever but is varied by each person's health & body.

In light of these benefits, homeopathic remedies may benefit your overall healing process and help make your recovery shorter and more pleasant. The primary homeopathic remedies that patients use for their healing journeys are [[Arnica montana for muscle trauma & soreness, bruising & keeping tissue salts [crystals ie lactic acids & blood components in flux]]; Hypericum for Nerve ending healing; Nux Vomica or Carbo Veg for nausea & toxicity from anesthesia; Mag Phos relaxes muscle tissue from cramping or tension; also there is a mix called Traumed or Traumeel topically. Kali Phos helps with nerve conduction & health & Chamomile (homeopathically & herbally) can help with anxiety & be calming to the whole system; a calm system heals better.

In understanding how homeopathic remedies work, one needs to understand the philosophy underlying the design of homeopathic remedies. Designers of homeopathic remedies recognize that symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the person who needs treatment rather than the disease alone. Only a small amount - literally at a molecualr amount level - of the active ingredient is used in the remedy. This stimulates your body into producing more of the chemicals and antibodies that are needed to heal your symptom. This purposefully accomplishes healing by helping your own body produce the substances needed to help yourself heal. While it may seem that this is a unusual way to be healed, it is actually the method employed (indirectly) by most mainstream medications as well. The best example being that vaccinations research was initiated by Dr Hahnemann's (the founder of Homeopathy) research & the vaccinations used world wide today.

How Should I Administer Homeopathic Remedies?

When administering homeopathic remedies, there are some general guidelines that should be practiced which can maximize their effectiveness, as discussed below.

For pill and liquid homeopathic forms

  • First, do not touch the pill with your hands if possible(obviously, with a liquid homeopathic remedy this isn’t a problem). The oils/lotions on your hands can render the pill less effective if held long. As a result, you should place the pill in the bottle cap or inside a little paper cup. Some homeopathic remedies come with a dispenser that will allow you to get the specific amount of pills you need out without using your hands. But it is best to get the little pellets into your system then not by trying to be perfect about it.
  • Second, leave the pill or liquid remedy under your tongue until it dissolves to improve its immediate absorption. Whether in pill or liquid form, you should hold the remedy under your tongue for at least a minute or as long as you can before swallowing. Your mouth actually has the ability to digest more than your stomach, which is why you may have been told in the past to chew 30 times before you swallow.
  • Third, do not eat, drink or smoke (regardless, you should not smoke at all during the 2-3 weeks before surgery and for 2-3 weeks after surgery) for at least 15-20 minutes before and after you take homeopathic remedies. Some sources also say that you should not take your homeopathic remedies at the same time as other medications. Many people keep the Homeopathic bottles in their car to take when at a red light, or nest to the couch or the computer where it's easy to just pick up. You can also place which ever ones you choose to use into a bottle of drinking water, shake them to dissolve which wil potentate the water so that as you sip your drinking water you will also receive a "dose" of your Homeopathics.
  • Last, some ingredients in foods, drinks and other products that you consume in your daily life can counteract the effects of homeopathic remedies and should be specifically avoided for at least 1 hour before and after you take your remedy. Among these include caffeine (in coffee, tea, soda, and other drinks), onions, garlic, chocolate, and mint (including mint found in products such as toothpaste or gum).

For cream/topical forms

As you will learn from walking around this room (and also by going to the Scar Healing Solutions area of the Incision/Wound Care & Scar Healing Solutions tab), patients also use topical/cream forms of homeopathic remedies (particularly Arnica Montana) to improve the healing of their scars and minimize their ultimate appearance. The application guidelines for a cream/topical form of homeopathy will differ depending on which cream you are given. Generally, you should not apply any homeopathic creams on open wounds or broken skin (unless your doctor has specifically advised you to do so). Sterilization is the utmost importance immediatley following surgery but the Homeopathic topicals will be a useful adjuntant after the inscisions have closed.

When Does One Typically Start & Stop Taking Homeopathic Remedies?

As you will learn from wandering around this tab, patients take homeopathic remedies both before and after their surgeries to help reduce and minimize the effects of various symptoms and issues. In determining the start and stop dates for taking a particular homeopathic remedy before and after your surgery, you should follow the instructions that come with the product, consider the ranges that we discuss in this tab for each of the primary homeopathic remedies, and consult your doctor. Starting with Hypericum & Arnica before the surgery will have your system prepared to start healing the surgery sites. Chamomile before & after will help to allay anxiety & promote rest. The time to begin and stop taking homeopathic remedies varies from woman to woman. The duration of use of a homeopathic remedy will also depend on the specific brand that you choose and on the strength and length of time that your symptoms persist. To help you, we have reported on average start/stop of patients with respect to the primary homeopathic remedies. As you realize from your walk around this tab, homeopathic remedies may need to be taken several times a day to be effective during your journey. In contrast to vitamins that are best absorbed when taken at the same time every day, homeopathic remedies can be taken at any time of the day. As long as you follow the guidelines for administering homeopathic remedies (discussed earlier) and the instructions that come with the product, the time of day you take your remedy is flexible. And now for a final consideration. Despite the mild nature of the active ingredients found in homeopathic remedies, it is best to take these remedies for no longer than the time needed. Additionally, there is no reason to take the remedies if you no longer experience the symptoms you are targeting during your recovery.

What Are The Dosage Levels?

Homeopathic Remedy Dosage Strengths

  • X is the highest strength (1:10 ratio of active ingredient to inactive solution)
  • C is the medium strength (1:100 ratio)
  • M is the lowest strength (1:1000 ratio)

But as Homeopathics work on a molecular stimulis M is the strongest dose to be taken less times per day & overall time period (best for the acute period); C the most common & easily found in Health stores can be used frequently during a day & longer length of time; X mild, taken very frequent & often used for children & pets.

With homeopathic remedies, there is no real danger of taking a dose that can be life-threatening. This is because homeopathic remedies are designed to spark some of the body’s own defenses and only a small molecular amount of the active ingredient is in the actual homeopathic remedy. As a result, when taking homeopathic remedies the danger of consuming an amount that constitutes an "overdose" is not an issue.

Traditional prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications contain a level of drugs (called physiological doses) that are designed to produce guaranteed healing effects. This practice is described as prescribing the maximum amount of a drug to safely guarantee a physiological result. But these doses are often designed without regard to the side effects that they may produce in the person taking them. For example, if you take a certain OTC cold medicine, you may experience drowsiness. That drowsiness is caused by the physiological dose of the OTC medication, which should also produce the favored healing response (alleviating the symptoms of your cold). As a result, in taking medications, you must take the good of the healing benefits with the bad of the side effects that come with it.

With homeopathic remedies, the design is to prescribe the minimum amount that will help cure the medical condition or illness. Homeopathic remedies may actually contain some of the same ingredients (or plants, extracts or minerals) found in a traditional or allopathic medication, but in much smaller doses and in a much more targeted fashion. Each homeopathic remedy targets a specific symptom (though they can be combined like many of the cold care OTC’s). In order to get a small amount of the active ingredient in the homeopathic remedy, homoeopathists ‘dilute’ the remedy into various measurements of strengths. "X" potencies are prepared by dilution at a ratio of 1:10. That means that 1X equals 1 part of the active ingredient for every 10 parts of inactive solution. X potencies are the strongest of the common homeopathic dosages. The middle measurement is "C" which dilutes the active substance at the ratio of 1:100. Here again, 1C equals one part of the active ingredient in 100 parts of the inactive solution. "M" equals 1:1000, and is the weakest of these three measurements. In a way, it’s exactly like mixing Ice Tea or Lemonade. If you have 1 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice, and you add 10 cups of water, the potency of your lemonade would be 1X.

Homeopathic Remedies Aren’t Wonder Drugs

While a considerable number of patients have reported that homeopathic remedies benefited their healing journeys, there are patients who tried these products and did not experience these healing benefits to the same degree. There are patients who did not report any benefits at all. For this reason, it is important to realize that the benefits are not guaranteed and results may vary considerably from woman to woman as Homeopathics stimulate your own system not alter it grossly. Homeopathic remedies are not wonder drugs that will magically end all of your post-op side effects and issues.

At the same time, we cannot overlook the sizeable number of patients we’ve encountered who have used homeopathic remedies and swear by their power as far as alleviating and minimizing the symptoms and issues that they experienced after their procedure. Further, it is important to note that while a good number of doctors approve of these homeopathic remedies, there are other doctors who do not believe in them and do not tell their patients to use them. There are also certain doctors who are actually against the use of all homeopathic remedies, vitamins, and supplements during your journey. In light of the differences in opinions, approaches, and philosophies for healing among doctors, it is important that you consult your doctor regarding any homeopathic remedy, medication, supplement that you’d like to take before or after your surgery so they can suggest a safe regimen for you. Homeopathics are of a molecular action & not affective in the way as a vitamin or herb is on the grosser [medical definition of larger acting] system.

Disclosing this information will enable your doctor to determine if anything that you are thinking of taking may be healing-unfriendly and should not be taken before, during, or after your procedure.

Many Physicians believe in Homeopathic remedies and even suggest their use before and after surgery. It is believed that they can promote healing and ease bruising. Each brand may have its own formula. Follow the directions for each brand and always consult with your physician before taking any medication. Some of these remedies are:
