From Make Me Heal

The Help Section can help you answer basic questions about using the Education Center and contributing your own information to it. As with the rest of the resource, the Help area is open to editing by anyone and feel free to add more answers to frequently asked questions involved with using the Education Center.

If you cannot find the answer that you need below, you can also look at the extensive Help Section of Wikimedia (the software site that powers the Education Center) at:

Additionally, you can submit comments and questions to us at Make Me Heal through the Online Message Center (please be sure to select "Message Boards" from the "Subject" drop-down menu on the form).

Searching For Information

To search for information, simply enter the keyword(s) that you wish to search for in the search box that is found on the left side of the screen. If there is no article involving your keyword(s), you will see a message letting you know that there is no such article. However, you can create an article.

Editing An Article/Page

The Education Center enables anyone to add information or otherwise correct information in any existing article. To edit a page, first search for it in the search box on the left side of the screen. Once you find the most relevant topic, click on it and then simply press the EDIT button that appears at the top of the page. Once you finish editing the article, be sure to save your changes by clicking the "Save Page" button found at the bottom of the screen.

Creating A New Article/Page

Any new page in the Education Page is called an article. Before writing a new article, it is first recommended to search for the article based on the relevant keyword(s) to see if it has already been written. If the article has already been written, you can simply add your information to the existing article where needed by clicking on the "Edit" button on the top of the page associated with the relevant article (see Editing An Article section for more details).

If there is no article written yet on your subject, the system will return with a message indicating that there is no such page and give you the option to click on a link to create this page. Once you click on this link, you will be in the "Edit" mode of creating this new page. Simply write the article with the information you desire and then click the "Save Page" button on the bottom of the page to complete and save your information.

Links

There are two basic types of links, namely outgoing links outside of the Education Center and links to articles and pages in the Education Center itself.

Links To Pages Outside of Education Center

To create a link to a page on the web that is not part of the Education center, simply paste the URL address (you must include "http://" in front of www or the link will not work) and it will show up automatically as a link on the page.

If you wish to have the link read as text instead of a url address, you will place the url in single brackets then skip a space and then write the text that you wish the link to read as.

Example: If you wish a link to say Make Me Heal Message Boards, you will put the url in brackets then skip one space and type this text of "Make Me Heal Message Boards", then close the brackets.

Make Me Heal Message Boards

Links To Pages In Education Center

To create a link to an article or a page, simply put the exact name of the article in double brackets.

Example: Link to Tummy Tuck article

Tummy Tuck

Please note that links are case sensitive, except for the first letter of a link. As a result, if the article name is "Tummy Tuck", correct links include

Tummy Tuck or tummy Tuck.

Incorrect links are Tummy tuck or tummy tuck.

You will notice that links in blue are correct in that they lead to an article in the Education Center. Links that show in red do not have an article of the same name.

Links To Categories

To link an article/page to a specific category or categories, you need to insert the following simple code anywhere on the page you create (preferably the bottom), as follows:

Category:Name of the category

Here is an example of a link to the Category:Tummy Tuck

Category:Tummy Tuck

If you do not want the word "Category" to appear in the link, you can enter it as this:

Tummy Tuck

You can link an article to multiple categories if it is relevant to different procedures or treatments. If an article is relevant to different procedures, you can link it to those other procedurs. Here is an example of linking to 3 different procedures:

Category:Rhinoplasty Category:Tummy Tuck Category:Liposuction

Redirecting Links

To redirect a page to another page or category, you simply search for the term and then create a page and then in it write:

  1. REDIRECT Name of Article To Redirect To

Here is an example, of a page that has been redirected to Eyelid Surgery article:

  1. REDIRECT Eyelid Surgery

#REDIRECT [[:Category:name of category]]

You can redirect a page to another by putting #REDIRECT [[Name of the new page]] as the first words on the page.

To link to a category, don't forget the extra col.

[[:Category:name of the category]].

Otherwise it will mean that this page is part of that category!

- To Edit a page, just click on the "edit" button on top of an article. If you just want to practice, you can use the sandbox. In the summary box, enter a short sentence to summarize your changes. Click on "Show Preview" before saving your changes.

- Put 2 apostrophes to emphasize something. Put 3 apostrphes on each side to emphasize even more. What happens if I put '4 apostrophes' ? And final5 five apostrophes will emphasize even more.

- Mark new paragraphs by making an empy line.

- I'm gonna try unordered list.

  • item 1
  • item 2
    • Sub-item A
    • sub-item B
  • item 3

You need to use <br> to force it into a new line.
Or you need to skip a line to make a new paragraph.

Now ordered lists

  1. first one
  2. second one
    1. sub
    2. another sub
  3. third one

Images

To include images in an article, you first have to upload the image to the server.
To upload an image, click on the Upload File link on the left. You might have to log-in to be able to see it.
Then, you will be asked to browse for the source file. Then in the Destination File box, put the name you intend to use for the filename. Names should be unique. You can also write a summary with comments about the picture. Then, when you are in your article you will type the following code:

[[Image:Example.jpg]] (replace Example.jpg by the actual Destination File Name that you gave when you uploaded your file. The images will then appear once you click on save.

Take out the "index.php"

Notice that on Wikipedia we don't see that "index.php".
We could do that too, I need to edit httpd.conf. The instrusctions are here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Eliminating_index.php_from_the_url
