Michael Douglas is an American film actor and producer best known for starring in such popular Hollywood films as Fatal Attraction (1987) opposite Glenn Close, Basic Instinct (1992) alongside Sharon Stone and Traffic (2000). Douglas is also well-known for being the eldest son to film acting legend Kirk Douglas. Douglas won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of greedy Wall Street stockbroker Gordon Gekko in the film Wall Street (1987). Douglas more recently won an Emmy Award for his role of gay pianist Liberace in the HBO film Behind the Candelabra (2013). Douglas gained popularity in the 1980s for acting in comedies, the most successful being Romancing the Stone (1984), its sequel The Jewel of the Nile (1985) and The War of the Roses (1989) in which he co-starred with Danny DeVito and Kathleen Turner.
Douglas is married to Welsh film actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
