From Make Me Heal

Also known as abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck procedure involves removing excess skin, or fat, or both from the abdomen (stomach). A tummy tuck normally includes muscle repair to correct diastasis recti, which is the stretching of the abdominal muscles that can occur as a result of weight gain, aging, and pregnancies.

While there are many variations of the procedure, there are three basic types of tummy tucks. A Full Tummy Tuck (called by some patients "FTT") will typically remove the skin from the pubic line to about the belly button and the incision will be hip to hip. It will also include tightening of both the upper and lower abs. The old belly button will be detached from the skin prior to removal. The doctor will position you at an angle to pull the skin down and close, and a new hole will be created to reattach the belly button.

An Extended Tummy Tuck is the same as a full tummy tuck but will extend the incision to the back of the hips.

A Mini Tummy Tuck will normally only restretch the skin below the belly button and the incision is usually lower and less wide than that of a full tummy tuck. It may or may not include muscle repair to the lower abs.

While these are the three basic types of tummy tucks, physicians can modify any of these to include more or less, according to the patient's needs and the doctor's preferences.
