Bono, Chastity
From Make Me Heal
Gay rights activist and occasional actress Chastity Bono has had a breast reduction and is thinking of getting another one. Chastity is also known as the daughter of entertainers Cher and Sonny Bono, and the half-sister of musician Elijah Blue Allman.
In 1988, Chastity had the breast reduction surgery procedure. Chastity said, "I'd like to have another one actually," she admits. "I had one when I was thin. When I gained weight, I gained back some breast size. I'm going to see what happens, how much weight I lose. Hopefully, I'll lose a lot of it up there."
What Plastic Surgery Will Cher’s daughter Chastity Need To Become A Man?

Chastity Bono, daughter of pop royalty Sunny Bono and plastic surgery fan Cher has recently announced her intention to become male via a sex change and henceforth be identified as Chaz. With a sex change often comes plastic surgery to help the patient’s outside better match their inside. Makemeheal.com speculates which plastic surgery procedures Chastity will need to become Chaz.
Over Chastity’s adulthood, Cher’s daughter has transformed from a cute blonde girl (pictured right) to a short haired masculine-looking woman with tatoos and a clothing getup of a dude (pictured left).
Transgender procedures usually begin with living as the other sex, as well as hormone therapies and may or may not include eventual surgery. Surgical procedures usually take years to complete and may or may not encompass: bilateral mastectomy (breast removal), hysterectomy and genital reconstructive procedures (GRT) to create a penis. Among the plastic surgeyr procedures that are done include a rhinoplasty to femininize the nose, eyelid surgery, lip injections to plump up the lips and other procedures aimed at making one look more feminine.
Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “For a male to female transition, it is easy to know what kind of plastic surgery to do. You feminize the male with a cute rhinoplasty, brow lift, upper blepharoplasty, lip injections, etc. For a female to male transition, you would need to anti-feminize. In this case, I am guessing that Chaz probably doesn’t have any facial plastic surgery.”
Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden explains, “Chastity has made the decision to embrace her identity as a male. The process may be done over an extended period of time in which many different procedures might be performed. Depending on the size of her breasts she may opt to have bilateral mastectomy to remove all of her breast tissues to obtain a more contoured flat chest. For gender reassignment she may or may not undergo a hysterectomy to remove her uterus, and then a penile implant may be done through phalloplasty as the final step of the overall process.”
If Chaz does have surgery, he will be following in his mother Cher’s footsteps (See Make Me Heal’s story on Cher’s plastic surgery).
In terms of sex reassignment surgery, it is easier to perform male to female transformations, which is why intersex infants are usually assigned female genitalia.
Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer reveals, “In terms of anatomy it is much easier for a Chaz to become a Chastity. However, it is possible for a Chastity to become a Chaz, but will require more extensive constructive surgery.”
The 40-year old female to male announced his decision via his publicist, Howard Bragman, who said, “Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity.”
“He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones.”
“It is Chaz’s hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his “coming out” did nearly 20 years ago.”
Recently, Cher said, “Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support. I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny, and although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child.”
Make Me Heal wishes Chaz the best of luck in his new life, whether or not it involves plastic surgery.
